Karen Whitfield
Hello, my name is Karen. I have been practicing Yoga for over 20 years and have been qualified as a Teacher since 2016. I currently teach Yoga in Exeter on a 121 basis for therapy, wellbeing and development.
I am passionate about Yoga as a personal journey: A process whereby we develop meaningful and bespoke practices according to individual goals; practices that evolve intelligently and adapt to change. My training in the art of Viniyoga was the source of transition for me from Group classes to Home practice and then to “Personal practice” – building the practice around the person rather than fitting each person to a standardised practice. To do this I consider a student’s physical and psychological needs within the context of their situation, time, space and support they have available. In this way Yoga can be accessible to anyone, at any stage of life and across a broad range of goals.
The Yoga that I both practice and teach was developed by Sri Krishnamacharya, considered the father of modern Yoga, and passed down to me by Paul Harvey based on his many years of study with Krishnamacharya’s son TKV Desikachar. I completed Paul’s 500hr Practitioner Training Program at the Centre for Yoga Studies in 2016 and have continued to study with him ever since.
I am also a Mum to two young boys and know first-hand how precious our time is, how difficult it can be to create opportunities for ourselves. How our own wellbeing often falls to the bottom of the pile when it deserves to be at the top. A personal practice is concise and relevant, designed around your needs, your schedule, moving at your pace, with you in control and with dedicated holistic support.
I am here to guide and support you to develop your own Yoga practices.
